Dr. Toma has built a reputation as a caring and compassionate surgeon with outstanding technical skills. Dr. Toma believes that many orthopedic conditions can be managed non-operatively, and is an advocate of physical therapy and other conservative treatments. However, if surgery is necessary, he utilizes minimally invasive techniques if at all possible to reduce pain, scarring, and functional limitations. Dr. Toma is a Board Certified Orthopedic Surgeon with more than 25 years of experience, and he was awarded M.D. of the Quarter in 2011 by the John Muir Medical Center in Concord. He performs surgery at John Muir Medical Center, Mt. Diablo Medical Center. Dr. Toma began practicing orthopedic medicine in 1993 after earning his medical degree from the University of Texas Medical School. His internship in general surgery and residency in orthopedic surgery gave him the confidence and skill necessary to develop innovative treatment programs that speed recovery and get results.
Anterior total hip arthroplasty is one of Dr. Toma’s specialties, and he has created an extremely successful hip arthroplasty program at Muir Orthopaedic Specialists. He has helped many patients resume a pain-free and active lifestyle after being disabled. Dr. Toma was born in Iraq and is fluent in Arabic. In his spare time, he likes to ski, bike, and play with his children.
